WebJun 1, 2006 · you are suposed to be able to fit 2 fingers from tailshaft to the ring around the yoke.if it is only 1 finger it is to long and will bust you case below the bellhousing if making over 350 hp.if it is more than 2 1/2 fingers it is too short it will vibrate or bust you tailshaft. if its not fast enough,spray it. 67johnny Registered WebApr 23, 2003 · The total amount of the shaft showing is 1 3/8in. Is this to far out of the tailshaft? Its 1in out from when it was all the way in. I know ppl say 3/4 to 1in is good, but is that total, or from when you stick it all the way in till it stops and then pull it out the 3/4 or 1in.

(length wise) OR have a little more cut off the shaft and risk the yoke not being far enough in the tailhousing. Or opt for an aftermarket tranny that has the hardenshaft which doesn't have the offending raised section on the shaft.
